spring/summer 2014

1 - 2: Hérmes, Christopher Kane, 3 - 4: Chloé

Into blush tones and white for this spring and summer. Basically all I want to wear is peach, nude and white with maybe a splash of blue every once and a while. And I can't forget my cognac brown sandals that were a dream come true at the end of last summer. I want to wear easy t-shirts, easy shorts, and tortoise shell sunglasses.

Goals:

1. internship + job
2. clean out/organize wardrobe
3. go to the beach
4. change license
5. get a passport
6. make this lemon berry cake
7. get a summer glow

Muses:

1. Georgia May Jagger as a beauty icon
2. Bossa Nova music
3. Tensnake's album "Glow"
4. baby pink and coral pink
5. sky blue
6. strawberry blonde hair

happy international women's day

1. Julie Delpy

Of course I first saw Julie Delpy in the Before series and she just really caught my attention. Her sweet French accent and the disheveled, summer traveler look that she had made me focus on her for a good portion of the first film in the series, Before Sunrise. I also found solitude in some of the things her character said. It made me happy to know that she was (and is) 1/3 of the team that made all three of those movies so wonderful. Not only is she a fabulous screenplay writer, but she sings and is such a great role model for women in film.

2. Gillian Anderson

How could anyone not love Dana Scully? Gillian Anderson made women in the FBI and "the force" on television possible by playing Special Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files for about 10 years. Gillian still kicks ass today playing Hannibal Lecter's psychiatrist (which is a lot of work) on NBC's Hannibal and had her own drama in the U.K. as well as another new show here in America. The world can't get away from Gillian Anderson and I hope we never tire of her. Also, her speech at the 1997 Golden Globe awards when she wins best actress sums it all up.

3. Lena Dunham

I just really love Lena and Girls. The show is so funny and so much fun to watch. I am tired of all the debating and arguing and I just want people to watch the show with an open mind to watching something slightly entertaining. Yes, some of the characters are annoying, but that's what makes the show unique. Not everyone is perfect and certainly not the girls on Girls. Not only is Lena a fantastic writer (her book come out October 7th; it's already marked in my calendar), but she just seems like the girl you're friends with that you can spend hours talking to about wonderful things over coffee. Exhibit A.

4. Natalie Massenet

I don't think Natalie Massenet gets enough credit for what she's done with Net-a-Porter and now Porter Magazine. Natalie basically changed the game for online shopping and as created a hub for high fashion. And let's just talk about Porter Magazine. It's basically flawless. It's different from other glossies. It focuses on women and what kind of high luxury goods all women want. There are actual quality articles and editorials in Porter instead of just random pages with random clothes and accessories thrown around like a Polyvore set. Some real thought from a real woman went into Porter Magazine and I can't wait for issue 2.

5. Stella McCartney

Stella makes clothes that women and girls want to wear. She's thrown into the category of "best friend clothes" with Phoebe Philo and Hannah MacGibbon and that's not such a bad thing. Watching this Vogue Voices video about her made me want to go out and buy a bunch of Stella. Or at least go check to see if the few leather pieces I have aren't real leather. It also made me realize how often I over look Stella during fashion week. She's so smart and beautiful and looks like a great mum. We need women designing for women that are like Stella. She knows what we want when we want it. Her brand is something no man could ever be so successful with.

While we're at it, here are some fabulous women-power movies to watch and women-power songs to listen to.

oscar night

Julie Delpy in Jenny Packham, Lupita Nyong'o in Prada

Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé, Charlize Theron in Dior

Simple and glamorous describes my four favorite looks from the Oscar's last night. I honestly can't get over Lupita Nyong'o's dress, though.
